 Mole removal

Mole removal is a simple plastic surgery. Your first step in mole removal is to check with your family doctor. Your family doctor can look at it, run any tests needed, give their opinion, and probably even remove it there in the office. Or, they can refer you to a specialist.

Most doctors can usually perform the simple plastic surgery to remove a mole right in their office. Normally, moles are just that: moles. So, if you just want it gone, there are several different plastic surgery procedures that can be used to remove it. Most plastic surgery procedures to remove moles are very simple, and only take a few minutes to complete. They usually entail the doctor numbing the skin around the mole and either freezing the mole or removing it completely by using a special scalpel. These simple plastic surgery mole removal procedures don't cause you any pain--ok, except the needle used for numbing--and are quick and easy. There can be some discoloration of the skin or a small scar where the mole was removed, but there should not be any major problems for removing a small mole. Having a doctor remove a small mole is no big deal.

Your doctor can help you decide if you need to take the next step and do a biopsy on the material in the mole to determine if it is cancerous. This kind of plastic surgery usually involves cutting out the entire mole and sending it to a lab for tests for cancer. Mole removal always comes with this risk: it could be more than you bargained for.

If the mole is large or goes deep under the skin, you doctor may consider other plastic surgery procedures to remove the mole. A very large mole or very deep mole will require more effort to remove and usually will leave a larger hole. Different plastic surgery procedures might be used to remove it. This hole will be closed by your doctor, or plastic surgeon, and they will try to keep the skin even and the scar as small as possible.

Some things to look for if you have an unsightly mole are: the mole getting bigger, darker, changing shape, or being sensitive to clothing or anything rubbing against. Itching or burning is also a sign that you need to have it checked out by either a doctor or a dermatologist. Just remember that mole removal might be necessary if you have any of those symptoms. A more intense plastic surgery might be needed if the mole causes a large incision or any other problem. So, call your doctor and do not be afraid to have it checked at the first sign of a problem.

Although mole removal is a simple plastic surgery procedure, there can be problems or complications that you might need to consider. If your doctor sends it for a biopsy, and it is cancerous, you will need to look into treatment options. Just don't be afraid to discuss this with your doctor. ...
