 The face lift

Have you ever seen Miami Heat coach Pat Reilly? He should probably be the spokesperson for the face lift. The man looks just as young as he did twenty years ago. Sure, he probably lives healthy, but that's not the reason behind his youthful appearance. He has had plastic surgery several times!

The face lift is one of the oldest plastic surgery procedures. It is also known as rhytidectomy. It is common for older people especially to have this form of plastic surgery. The face lift has a high rate of success with comparatively few drawbacks.

Procedure:

When you get older, your skin begins to sag. That age old enemy gravity finally catches up to you and can hit like a ton of bricks. The face lift is a plastic surgery that can reverse some aspects of aging. In this procedure, your facial skin is tightened and pulled back, removing wrinkles and improving the appearance of your skin.Length:

Due to the amount of incisions and type of cutting required, face lift plastic surgery can take up to several hours to perform.

Anesthesia:

When you talk with your surgeon, he will provide you with the options for anesthesia during your face lift. Normally, the procedure requires either a local or a general anesthesia.

Side Effects:

Whenever you go into plastic surgery, there are always potential side effects. There are not too many associated with the face lift, but sometimes there are some side effects. They include: inflammation; bruising; skin numbness; dryness of the skin; and for men, it may be required to shave behind the ears since hair producing skin has been moved to that location.

Risks:

The face, as you are well aware, is a sensitive area. During a plastic surgery there may be damage to some of the nerves in the face. Normally, this damage is temporary, but there exists the possibility that some damage may be permanent. Other risks include: infections, loss of healing speed, bleeding, and scarring.

Recovery:

The face is very delicate so it takes a while for you to get back into the swing of things. You can return to work in approximately two weeks. If you're thinking about getting on the basketball court or hitting the gym, you might want to wait a few weeks. If you love the beach, you might want to consider getting the plastic surgery in the winter because it takes a while before you can go back into the sun.

Duration of Results:

The majority of face lift plastic surgery lasts up to a decade. Of course, there are times when the duration is shorter and the skin needs to be retightened. Many people have numerous of these procedures during their lives.
